2009 Trends: HAIR

27Jan09

It’s been 27 days into 2009 already but what the heck…

Okay, there are too many facets of fabulous fashion and I don’t have enough free time (totally forcing in another F for no farticular reason) to discuss them at once. So lets begin with 2009 hair trends. I surfed the www and here are the hair trends that I’ve found:

THE BOB

You’ve probably noticed that the cropped bob and  shoulder-length bob are in for 2009. I love this haircut since it goes well with all outfits. The downside is that, for most people, it isn’t wash-and-wear. For a nice, casual bob, apply a heat protector or any hair moisturizer and blow-dry. I use Fekkai Straight Away Hair Straightener Blow Dry Balm. If you want your bob to look a bit more formal, use a flat iron after blow-drying then apply a good, non-greasy shine serum.

THE PIXIE CROP

If you think you can carry it, why not wear a pixie crop?  Pixie crops pack a lot of impact. When done right, they give sophistication to a person. They’re very low maintenance when it comes to styling but if you plan to sport a pixie crop for a long time, you’re gonna have trips to the salon often.

Pixie crops do not flatter all face shapes, facial features or even bodies so make sure to ask your hairstylist first! This isn’t an easy cut to doctor.

LONG HAIR: FLOWY or STICK STRAIGHT

Long hair is in! Well, has it ever been out of style anyway? I love long hair because you can do endless things with it. If you’re having a bad hair day, you can just tie it up in a ponytail. It requires a lot of product though. Also remember that even if you’re growing your hair long, you should regularly go to the salon for a trim. It keeps your hair healthy and prevents split ends.

OLD HOLLYWOOD WAVES

The 1940s are back. Glamorous waves and side-parts are in for 2009. This hairstyle requires very high maintenance to be able to achieve its polished look. Keeping every hair in place for hours will be quite a challenge.  How does Dita Von Teese do it?!

MILKMAID BRAIDS

I like the messier version of Mary-Kate than Ashanti’s perfect braids. Sienna Miller wore milkmaid braids back in 2007 and it became quite a trend. This year, braids are back and I hope they won’t be as huge as Sienna’s.

BANGS

Woohoo! Bangs! Side-swept, wispy, blunt bangs. They definitely give you a makeover. Bangs are the easiest way to subtly or dramatically switch up your look. They also hide a number of imperfections like acne, wrinkles and scars. Also, if you have a big forehead like Tyra, bangs are the the way to go (Tyra Bangs!).  However, bangs do tend to cause pimples on your forehead so my advice is to wear a headband when you’re at home or pin them to the side to keep your bangs off your face.

Side-swept is definitely the safest choice. You can make them disappear if you want unlike blunt bangs. Now, if you’re contemplating on whether or not to get Lady GaGa bangs, please ask your hairstylist first. It can look extremely classy or unbelievably tacky.

There you go! Hair trends for 2009.
